Housekeeper Shifts
Shifts organize housekeeper work sessions — when someone clocks in, which section they cover, breaks they take, and any non-task work they do.
Shift Lifecycle
Off Duty → On Shift (with section) → On Break → On Shift
↘ End Shift → Off Duty
Starting a Shift
A housekeeper selects a section (floor, wing, or zone) when starting their shift. This determines which tasks appear in their available work queue.
Moving Sections
If a housekeeper needs to cover a different area mid-shift, they can switch sections. The available work queue updates to reflect the new section.
Ending a Shift
When the shift ends, any incomplete assigned tasks remain in the queue for reassignment.
Breaks
Starting a Break
Housekeepers can start and end breaks during their shift. Break time is tracked separately from task time.
Break Tracking
- Break duration is recorded
- Breaks appear in activity timelines
- Managers can see who is on break at a glance
Other Work
Not all housekeeping work fits neatly into tasks. The Other Work feature lets housekeepers log miscellaneous activities:
Categories
- Deep cleaning
- Linen runs
- Guest requests
- Public area maintenance
- Inventory restocking
- Training
Logging Other Work
- During a shift, open the Other Work panel
- Select a category
- Add a brief explanation of the work
- Optionally attach evidence (photos, notes)
- Submit — time is recorded separately from task work
Shift Visibility
Housekeepers see their own shift status and timer.
Managers see all active shifts on the dashboard:
- Who is working and in which section
- Who is on break
- Who has been working the longest
- Coverage gaps
Best Practices
- Start your shift when you arrive at your assigned section
- Log breaks accurately for fair time tracking
- Use Other Work for any activity that isn't a standard task
- End your shift when you finish — incomplete tasks will be handled by the next shift
